Module 3 Using Productivity Software to Enhance Teaching and Learning

Essential Question: How can technology best support learning?
Purpose of the Module:
Appleworks simplifies the work of teachers and enhances classroom
learning. Students can use Appleworks for many different types of
projects and assignments, and teachers can use the program as a
productivity tool. This module describes many of Appleworks commonly
used features, includes some advanced tips and tricks and explains
where to find out about more uses for this software.
Module Objectives:
• Learners will gain knowledge about Appleworks as a classroom-productivity tool.
• Learners will become comfortable enough using Appleworks to train their students to use the program effectively.
• Learners will share ideas and begin collaborative team relationships with other teachers in their clusters.
• Learners will discover new ways to use this program to support inquiry-based learning in the classroom.

Steps to a very simple spreadsheet / chart:
1. Click on Appleworks icon
2. Choose Spreadsheet
3. Click in cell A1, type "Favorite Color" and press return.
4. Type "red" and press return ; type "blue" and press return ; type "yellow" and press return.
5. Click in cell B2; type "5" and press return ; type "2" and press return ; type "9" and press return
6. Select the area with the data you've just entered.
7. Go to OPTIONS:MAKE CHART and select the pie chart. Click OKAY.
